Announcing CASLPA’s New Professional Development Program!
By Michelle Jackson, Manager of Professional Development, SAC This article has been republished from the Summer 2013 issue of Communiqué. Please note that this article was originally published when Speech-Language and Audiology Canada (SAC) was called the Canadian Association of Speech-Language Pathologists and Audiologists (CASLPA).We’ve been hearing whispers for a while now, but our most recent membership survey sent the message loud and clear: CASLPA members are looking for more diverse, more accessible and more affordable learning opportunities.
We are pleased to announce that starting in late 2014, we will begin rolling-out our new professional development program!
Here are some of the exciting details:
- We will host more in-person workshops in smaller cities!
- We will provide more online learning opportunities. Our new on-demand library will provide high-quality and informative e-learning where you want, when you want.
- We will start hosting webinars! Our webinars will enable you to participate in “live” events and connect with colleagues from across the country from the convenience of your own computer.
Our new program reflects the changing times, the changing economy and the changing landscape of professional development.
Changes to conference:
We will now host our conference in major Canadian cities every other year (in 2014, 2016, 2018 and 2020). In the alternating years, we will host additional workshops in various locations across the country.
Why the change? On average, only about 7% of members attend the CASLPA Conference in any given year. Hosting a biennial conference will enable us to develop more diverse and affordable educational opportunities. This new initiative is a six-year trial program; we will re-evaluate the program in 2019.
