0Obituary of SAC Member Sue Christensen Wright
Written by: Elizabeth Haynes, R.SLP. S-LP(C)
Sue was born in Lethbridge, Alberta as the second child of Mary and Frank Konrad, Hungarian immigrants to Canada. Sue attended school in Lethbridge and Calgary where she excelled academically and in the arts, particularly dance. She retained her ability to speak her parent’s native language and participated in Hungarian cultural programs throughout her life.
Sue studied speech-language pathology, graduating from the University of Alberta with a bachelor’s degree and worked for the Edmonton Catholic School Board. Later moving to Calgary, she joined Alberta Health Services as an S-LP and manager for the school program, and later worked for Rockyview school division as an S-LP and team lead. She completed her master’s degree from University of Alberta in speech-language pathology in 1999.
Sue developed programs for training speech-language assistants for Alberta Health Services and Rockyview School Division and particularly enjoyed her work with FNMI students. She had special interests and training in fluency and early literacy and presented nationally and internationally on these topics. As well, she was a certified and much-loved speech arts teacher.
Sue was a whirlwind: a creative, energetic, wise and empathetic S-LP and teacher who will be greatly missed by her family, friends, colleagues and clients. She was predeceased by her husband, David Wright, and her father Frank Konrad and leaves her daughters, Lexi and Madi Wright, Kira Christensen, her brothers George Konrad, Francis Konrad, sister Shirley Konrad and niece Elizabeth Konrad.
Condolences can be sent to 32 Ranch Estates Road, NW T3G1T5 Calgary, AB. A celebration of life will be held later in 2021.
